Minus the glasses and braces, I look just like ugly Betty. I hate it and I hate the way I look. Generally I dress like her as well... but that's by choice, my looks aren't. I'm 25, I've been "classified" as ugly all my life. I'm a teacher and as so I can definitely see how they react better to an attractive person rather than me. What is so great about this show that it's receiving all these awards?

It's the moral behind the show that gets it all the awards. People in the fashion industry perceived her as "ugly," yet the viewer finds out that she has the absolute best heart and sense of real style ever. She's talented, sharp as a tack and in one episode sold a Gucci bag to get medicine for a friend's dad who couldn't pay for it. Now THAT is beautiful. It's also rare on TV, which is another attraction.
The original version from Colombia was the same way, and I love both shows because of that.

it shows how even in a high end environment, looks have nothing to do with things. betty knows how to stand high, defend hersofl in odd situations, and how to speak at the right time. many viewers admire her courage and pride. viewers can also relate to be a "mismatch" in a too-perfect-its-fake sort of world. its not a reality show with no plot and it isn't one of those gosh-thats-dumb sorta show. thats why people like it so much :-)

I accidentaly watched some of it. I wanted to throw the t.v. set out the window, but it wasn't mine. That is the dumbest show ~ I really don't have anything else to say about it.
Some girls kept talking about some dumb purse she had and was asking her where she got it ... ??
