There are gold mines scattered all around Mt. Diwalwal, Compostela Valley (Mindanao) and the mountainous areas of Benguet (Luzon). Tribal tradition confirms that mining has been done long before foreign colonizers came to the Philippines and artisanal, or small-scale miners, in the Cordilleras practice an art that has changed little over the centuries. You can actually buy gold products for cheaper price in these places, but most are exported outside of the country.
Chromite is still being mined in the Coto Mines of Masinloc, Zambales (Luzon). Mines are still operational. Huge ships from European companies still come to Oyo Bay, Masinloc to transport chromite out of the country.
I have been to these areas personally, my contacts are from the local government units.
There have been mercury mines in Palawan years before but not anymore.
As for steel products, you may contact Global Steel Philippines Inc. In the Philippines, GSP owns and has rehabilitated the former National Steel plant in Iligan (Mindanao), from which it exports hot and cold rolled steel products throughout Asia.
The Philippines is one of the world’s most highly mineralized countries, with bountiful untapped mineral wealth. Philippine copper, gold and chromite deposits are among the largest in the world.
