Your compressor may be going bad. Have you ever pulled the grill off the front and cleaned the dust etc. out? Do you clean the backside of the fridge? These are important steps that a lot of people overlook. I have a friend who owns a restaurant supply business and he showed me how not cleaning the coils can cause the temperature inside fridge/freezer to rise. It has to work harder and in turn it can cause the compressor to give out. Try to clean under/behind the fridge and see if that helps. It reminds me of our hearts: if we eat alot of junk, we clog up our arteries...

They are NOT supposed to.
I always heard that the Difference between A Fridge and a Gay Man is that fridges don't fart when ya take the meat out
:-)
lol
But probably something to do with the Motor Shutting off and pulling to the Side or could just be a Loose belt if its a squeaky sound
Have a Good day

If it is a metal to matal clunk, you most likely have broken motor mounts; these are internal parts of the hermetic compressor, and when broke, they cause the electric motor to clunk. It can run like that for a while, but may cause problems down the road. The compressor will need to be replaced, and that will be expensive. If it is not under warrenty, or is older, get a new fridge.

In the refrigerator, there is a freon unit and motor attached to the main chase with some rubber grommets. Over time, depending on the age of your unit, The rubber grommets have become worn and cracked.
You would need to call repairman or you could try to attempt this yourself. Replacing these grommets could correct your noise issue.

Maybe it's old, maybe it needs to be replaced.
Maybe there's a fridge ogre in your freezer box planning his attack on your house while you sleep.
