A problem easy to diagnose on a work bench, hard to do on-line.

Most modern computers have the sound system built into the Main board and failure of the sound system is rare.

Either the sound system drivers are missing or your speakers are faulty

First check the speakers by plugging them into a iPod or something else to check they work.

Plug a set of Headphones you know work into the green socket on your computers backplate to see if that works.

Elimination is required.

If you have a volume icon on the bottom of your computer on the task bar click on it and you should be able to get a menu to come up. Check and see if the volume has a check mark on one of the mute boxes.
