Pretty broad question....
A consenting adult sits down to watch other consenting adults engage in sex...legal and his own business. Is it morally wrong? Nope, I don't think so.
A consenting adult sits down to watch children or innocent, unwilling participants engage in forced sex...illegal and morally wrong.
Are there better ways to spend time? Sure. But thats not the question.

Bad is a moral term. When speaking of morality, there must be a moral guide or moral authority. For a spiritual perspective, Christians typically refer to a verse in Matthew (5.28) which says to even look at a woman with lust in your heart is the same as if you engaged in relations with her. So if adultery is bad, then so is pornography.
Pornography is typically understood to be visual imagery, although a young lady recently wrote in to "Annie's Mailbox" (I think it's called) about her addiction to romance novels and magazine stories. I first got hooked at the tender age of 12 when my brother showed me one of my dad's magazines (thanks to you both). The root of the word pornography itself is "evil writing."
Intuitively, there is guilt associated with looking at graphic imagery of all kinds, hence, I suspect, your question. It is totally NORMAL to desire to experience the satisfaction of curious impulses, especially when they are new. However, normal does not equal good.
The kind of rush a young man gets when looking at graphic imagery is the rush that will drive a young man to get married and keep him faithful to his wife. So I recommend waiting until the real thing. Plus, all the previous respondents have been correct: it is totally addictive, some believe moreso than drugs. Additionally, many men convicted of sex crimes will describe the beginning of their decline when they first viewed soft core pornographic imagery.
In summary, the act of viewing explicit material will harm your relationship with God, if you have one in the first place. Second, we instinctively know it's wrong, which is why the guilt factor. Third, it is normal, but not good for you, and you risk a serious addiction that destroys careers and families.
For more resources, and help staying out of the cycle, I'd recommend James Dobson's website, www.family.org, or the book "Every Man's Battle" or "Every Young Man's Battle." Plus, the website resources will even provide someone to talk to who won't judge you, but they will be honest and available. Can't beat that.
