Yes it's pretty much the same. Like a lot of the boys here in the US, they don't have a clue how to go about gaining some rapport with you, and at the same time still look cool with their peers--so they do the easiest thing--tease you and they try not to address the fact they are actually crushing on you.

Not too long from now, you'll be getting love letters, flowers and stuffed toys. Adolescent boys are cheesy all over the world--but none are as cheesy as 'pinoy' teens who think they're in love.

Don't be bothered with that. When boys tease you, in my own opinion, such cannot be correlated or should not be directly associated to either being American or Filipino, or of any nationality. Especially with the fact that Filipinos are more "American" in their culture. Teasing, I say, is every young boy's thing. Some boys get to be challenged by their peers and do it through teasing. Teasing usually starts between those boys. The pack's leader may be teasing another boy of lower self-esteem and challenging him to come up to you, which the bullied boy may find difficult to do so, probably because you're an American, and the teased boy may somehow know how to talk in English but I'm sure he'll have difficulty in dropping his lines as most young Filipino boys aren't that fluent actually as you may have thought. As a result, the teasing appears like it's hitting on you, as the bullied kid refuses to bid his peer's silly order. That I would say is the most likely scenario as per my evaluation with your dillema. It may appear embarrassing, but when I was younger, I have had my share of experience as a bullied kid, and the girl whom, I observed to have felt pretty much the same way you do, is back then mad at me. I used to ask myself, why the heck life is rude at me? Not only I'm bullied by rascals, but I'm snobbed too by the prettiest gal in school, I dunno if my story makes sense to you, but I hope it would and make you realize that, that what you've gone through should not affect your responsibility in coming to school everyday. Enjoy your stay in the Philippines!
