Let's assume two persons...
One who has, let's say, on a scale from 1 to 10, had an IQ of 10 but had an experience of 5, we name him "John"...
The other who had an IQ of 5, but an experience of 10, we name him "Peter"...
On a general competition (any competition), who do you think would most likely win??
So, this is a battle between an intelligent and an experienced...

I think experience wins. Intelligence is great but could cause someone to over-think things...especially if they are inexperienced.

I think most probably there will be the tie between the two.
Because wherever thing comes related o intelligence john would take more points (as his IQ is double than peter.)
Wherever thing which has to do less with intelligence but is related to time peter would score the more points (since his experience is more than john so he will be able to do the thing fast as he is experienced in the same thing.)
So when there is a competition between experience and intelligence there will rather be tie.
But if you take the same competition after some appropriate time the winner of the same competition will be an intelligent person i.e. john in this case.
Because an intelligent person surely will become an experienced person some or the other day.
But it is difficult for any person to increase his/her IQ for intelligence above certain personal level!!!

Have to go with IQ, as Peters experience may still not have taught him anything. IQ may not be proof of intelligence, but usually it keeps you from repeating mistakes ( unless a pretty woman is involved), then John is using the HEAD without IQ.

The answer to your question as it is posed is - it's a tie.
The competition is only defined as "general." Therefore it could be a competition of specified or non-specified experience, intelligence, strength, speed, hot dog eating, etc.
The only known attributes of the competitors are intelligence and experience, which when combined total 15 for each of them.
Therefore considering the argument as presented, the only logical answer is - a tie.

Problems based on experience can be solved by both men, albeit the intelligent man needs to think about them more. But intelligence posses a cut off value to the problems the experienced man can solve (e.g. he can not come up with the unified field theory, as the intelligent man can). Hence the intelligent man would win, taking longer to solve some problems, but ultimately completing a larger set of problems.

Probably Peter (experience) will win the first set ... but to win the match is another challenge! I'd put my money on John.

this reminds me of "The Bear," where the main character, Ike, age 16, is trying to learn his way around the big woods and find the infamous bear that his family traditionally hunts. he can't find it because the bear wont come to him when he has his gun, compass, or watch on him. once he leaves these items behind, the bear appears, looks at him, and drifts back into the woods.
One may be able to know a gun in and out, be a sharpshooter, know how to follow a compass precisely, or read a watch in a fraction of a second, but once you dont really know how to kill a bear on its own terf, navigate the woods by yourself, and tell the time from surroundings.
experience wins

Generally speaking, experience will usually win. There is no better school than life.
Case and point. I know a man with two Masters Degrees in engineering who can't figure out how to open a bottle of NyQuil without crushing the plastic cup. Go figure.

Impossible to answer without knowing what each person's experiences are and what the actual competition is.
