I have error pages. My whole site is down. I use WordPress as my index, and I could not write a sitemap with a sitemap plugin.

Thinking the public html directory was not writable, I change it, and now everything under it changed.

I can't find what the permission settings should be for wordpress files/folders nor what my standard site permissions should be.

any help...

I believe your public_html directory should be 750..did you check the instructions for the sitemap plugin?

I dont really use wordpress so i cant be sure, but all your public_html directory needs to be in read able (ditto for the files in it)
You may need to check if wordpress needs write permissions in the public_html directory but the files should be just readable

All the best
