I LIVE IN THE UK and have noticed some really good deals on laptops. I have a top budget of £400 and seem to be spoilt for choice. Any suggestions what make I should go for. Loads of suggestions please.

Go to a retail store and LOOK. I recommend Toshiba or HP.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

For durability go for HP or Toshiba (or Sony, but its way expensive kit). Acer are fine, unknown brands or store specific ones like PC World sell are less robust. My personal view is avoid Dell, I've found they tend to break. But at the £400 level you're not going to get best quality / best performance...

Consider second hand / remarketed if you can get it somewhere reputable.

Have a look at Morgan Computers website - www.morgancomputers.co.uk - as they've got some in your budget.

Basically, you *should* try before you buy as the feel of the laptop and its flexibility (= breakability to some extent) is hard to judge over the web. The keyboard feel and screen look is very important.

As a Computer Technician I'd like to recommend you Acer, because I've had good experiences with them as opposed to HP. You buy a brandnew HP and you'll have to spend the first few hours deleting all the trial software and crap off of there. You don't want to have to clean a brandnew computer. Toshiba is also good. I've had an Acer notebook myself for over a year and am very pleased with it. Never had problems, it still runs as smooth as when I bought it, thin, quiet, long battery life. The price is also unbeatable. I like to define Acer computer/laptops as a solid system, simple, fast, and no bullshit, it just does its job.

Well, i bought an acer one because it had more memory, and is a very good make. If you go for something like HP etc, you will get less memory and a smaller screen etc. I would look at acer. Good luck and all the best
