What are you thoughts on speed cameras.

Do you think they are a method of government funding or a good way of improving road safety.

Do you know of any examples to back upi your theory.

Do you know of any good websites that can answer my question???

Your help is most appreciated.

If drivers travelled at the correct speed, they would not be picked up by the speed camera, its common sense!!

Speed cameras are a proven way of reducing speed on certain stretches of road however there have been more accidents on the roads since Labour's insistance on millions of speed cameras to capture every fool who happens to drive faster than 70mph. Looking at 'official statistics' does not help. Sites such as www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/divisionhomepage/030766.hcsp will tell you that independent evaluations have proven that speed cameras save lives but others such as http://ip.bmjjournals.com/cgi/reprint/9/4/293.pdf will say different. The fines paid by motorists caught speeding seem to be ploughed right back in to putting up more speed cameras rather than on reducing road and council taxes which I believe was the original aim.

when britain was a free country, before european occupation.
the british were allowed to be adults and were recognised as such. they were also alowed to exersize natural talents, without being made affraid. heres my personal experiance of what i just said, its 1966. i have just become 21yo i have a driving licence for a car.but i wish to drive heavy goods, i just send off half a crown get permission jump in a 20 ton truck and drive. the government of the day realised that 21 was a responsable enough age to exersize your skill and do a mans job.Now they make young people to affraid and convinced them to spend a fortune on getting trained to do something that is easy, a speed cop in the sixties would follow you for three tenths of a mile then book you or let you go if he thought you deserved a chance or catch you on radar, even then you could try and appeal to him at the sceine to let you off. the thing is you had a chance, and you were treated as a man, now you have no chance and are treated like a child by a nazi style government. the camera does not belong in a free country. The govs partners in crime are the tv and movie makers who are obsessed with car crime and have been promoting speed and car chases for years and it works the kids are going wild on the road because they are brainwashed to be that way.its a circle.

I think speed cameras are a novel idea, but their use has many questioning their consitutionality. Check out these court cases where their use has been deemed invalid:

My personal opinion? I think they're great IF the gov't can positively show who was driving the vehicle. If it's simply a blurry picture of a vehicle where the license plate is the only thing legible on the photo, then ...no.

As for data and statistics on their use, check out these links:

I don't think it improves road safety, it can be a deterrent if properly identified. I think the traffic cam's monitoring accidents are much more beneficial.

It is fleecing not policing.

It is an excuse to monitor us whereever we go.

It is another part of the surveillance society they are building.
