It's not only about memory, but about what type of video card you have in your computer. I have the same problem with my older computer and cannot play most of the newer war games as they are very heavily graphics driven. Fortunatly, you are talking to a guy that has been playing computer games since the original Commodor 64.

Your best bet for a war strategy game no matter what your computer, is still the old classic: "Allied General" which was a sequel to the game "Panzer General" both of which were released by Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI). It is a turn-based strategy game based on the African and European theaters.

Althought the company is out of business, copies of both games can still be found. In fact, I recieved a new copy for Christmas this year and continue to enjoy the game after at least 10 years of playing. You may have to search ebay or your local game swap store to find it, but it is well worth the price and effort of obtaining it.

Another good choice is the "Close Combat" series by Atomic Games. CC is a tactical real time game (RTT). In the Close Combat RTT games, the player takes control of a small unit (platoon or company sized) of troops and leads them in battles of World War II from a top down 2D perspective.

There are 5 different games in the series although my personal favorite is Battle Of the Bulge. Again, because it is an older game, you may have to hunt around for it, but both games should run fine on your computer. The only glitch may be your operating system. Both games work great on windows 98 and lower. For newer operating systems like XP, you will have to adjust your application compatibility settings, but they will still play.

Good Luck and happy hunting!
