Women who smoke die of lung cancer and other smoking related diseases at twice the rate of women who don't smoke.
Women who smoke are sick more often than women who do not.
Women who smoke heavily have almost three times as much bronchitis or emphysema, about 75% more chronic sinusitis, 50% more peptic ulcers compared to women who don't smoke.
Smoking affects pregnancy and the health of the baby.
The risk of serious effects on the heart and blood vessels may be several times greater for women who use birth-control pills and also smoke cigarettes, compared to those who are on the pill but do not smoke.
More women die from lung cancer than from breast cancer.
So teenage girls and women need to stop smoking.
Stop Smoking Tips - The Important 4 D's:
Drink water. - It helps flush the nicotine and other chemicals out of your body faster. This also satisfies the oral craving for a period of time. Try using a straw which is the same diameter as the cigarette.
Deep breathing. - This is very healthy, but most people do not utilize their full lung capacity. Take 10 deep breaths, and hold the last one while lighting a match. Exhale slowly, and blow out the match. Take a Deep Breath Break instead of a cigarette break.
Delay. - Every day, delay lighting your first cigarette by one hour. After the first cigarette, when you have your next craving to smoke, delay for another half an hour. As a smoker you were not in control of your habit; you smoked when your body craved nicotine. Now by delaying, you are calling the shots, you are in control of when you say NO.
Do something different. - Don't smoke when you first experience a craving. Wait several minutes (also see Delay above) and during this time change your activity or talk to someone. You have to get out of the situation that makes you want to smoke.
For instance, if you smoke after dinner, do the dishes or go for a walk. Change your habits!
Stop Smoking Aids
Nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), such as chewing gum, skin patch, tablet, nasal spray or inhaler, are designed to help you break the habit while providing a reduced dose of nicotine to overcome withdrawal symptoms. Studies have shown that NRT doubles the chances of a smoker to successfully quit smoking compared to someone using no therapy.
Bupropion, (Zyban) works by de-sensitising the brain’s nicotine receptors and has similar success rates to NRT. The course of treatment lasts around 8 weeks. It is only available on prescription under medical supervision.
Laser Stop Smoking Therapy - This has been gaining a lot of attention and popularity lately. It is a safe, drug-free method of smoking cessation method. The laser's light is helpful in controlling the smoking addiction and enhancing relaxation.
Beneficial health changes when you stop smoking:
Stop smoking and your body will start to repair the damage done almost immediately, starting a series of beneficial health changes that continue for years.
Time since quitting Beneficial health changes
20 minutes Blood pressure and pulse rate return to normal.
8 hours Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood drop by half, oxygen levels return to normal.
24 hours Carbon monoxide will be eliminated from the body. Lungs start to clear out mucus and other smoking debris.
48 hours No nicotine left in the body. Ability to taste and smell is greatly improved.
72 hours Breathing becomes easier. Bronchial tubes begin to relax and energy levels increase.
2 - 12 weeks Circulation improves.
9 months Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve as lung function is increased by up to 10%.
1 year Risk of a heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker.
10 years Risk of lung cancer falls to half that of a smoker.
15 years Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked.
Good Luck!! Girlie Girl :)

imagine this...
you could develop a number of cancers (all of which have NO cure). most common ones
-lung
-esophageal
-mouth
these cancer cells slowly eat away the tissue in these organs-eventually causing them to suffocate and die-end result-your death (and a very slow and painful one at that!! i've seen it)
development of COPD or emphysema
copd-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-two lung diseases, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that are characterized by obstruction to airflow that interferes with normal breathing.
COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in America and the number of women dying from the disease has surpassed the number seen in men
Smoking is the primary risk factor for COPD. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of COPD deaths are caused by smoking. Female smokers are nearly 13 times as likely to die from COPD as women who have never smoked. Male smokers are nearly 12 times as likely to die from COPD as men who have never smoked.
Chronic bronchitis is the inflammation and eventual scarring of the lining of the bronchial tubes. When the bronchi are inflamed and/or infected, less air is able to flow to and from the lungs and a heavy mucus or phlegm is coughed up. The condition is defined by the presence of a mucus-producing cough most days of the month, three months of a year for two successive years without other underlying disease to explain the cough.
This inflammation eventually leads to scarring of the lining of the bronchial tubes. Once the bronchial tubes have been irritated over a long period of time, excessive mucus is produced constantly, the lining of the bronchial tubes becomes thickened, an irritating cough develops, and air flow may be hampered, the lungs become scarred. The bronchial tubes then make an ideal breeding place for bacterial infections within the airways, which eventually impedes airflow.
imagine having to carry around a portable oxygen tank just to be able to live each day (and all before the age of 40). great way to impress your children or grandchildren
having to avoid doing things you enjoy: sports, simple things such as taking a walk or shopping b/c you can't breathe, being outdoors due to pollution or weather affecting the disease you've already contracted due to smoking
then there is the nasty smell that sticks to everything!! you, your clothes, your teeth (they turn an awful yellow color as well). it even sticks to the walls of your home and on your furniture-even if you smoke outdoors only.
people or family members with breathing issues such as asthma won't want to or can't be around you b/c the smoke or smoke smell makes it hard for them to breathe....

Do you want devil's advocate answers then? Why not smoke, you're going to die eventually anyway. Why not smoke, nicotine can be an appetite suppressant. Why not smoke, you don't want the tobacco growers to go out of business. Why not smoke, it's another right the gov't is trying to take away from us so we need to fight back. Why not smoke, it goes well with drinking. Why not smoke, people die of lung cancer and heart disease who have never smoked.
Is that what you were looking for?

My father died of lung cancer--smoked two packs a day for a long time. I watched him literally choke to death. Gasping for every breath, afraid to close your eyes and go to sleep for fear of not waking up, struggling to fill damaged lungs with oxygen, gasping and weezing, and trying to get an oxygen tank which never arrived in time. Dying. Sound like fun to you? Besides the fact that you are killing everyone else around you with second-hand smoke.........so, go right ahead and smoke your brains out, as long as you can face choking and gasping for every last breath only to lose the battle and die like a dog.......

A very sexy guy I know says kissing a woman who smokes is like kissing ashes... awful!
Apart from that, you will get wrinkles and lung cancer, sooner than you think. And when you decide to stop you'll find that you're addicted.
Why even consider it? It's cool to be able to say no. Losers say yes to everything just to impress other people.

Lung cancer would be a terrible disease to die from, gasping for breath, or getting emphysema.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to jog to the top of the stairs and not gasp for breath?
Your lungs are black as coal, disgusting.
Smoker's cough.
Smoker's stink and their breath stink, yellow teeth.
Cigs cost a lot of money. You could got on a nice trip down south instead of buying cigs.
Wouldn't it be nice to go through the day without having a craving for a cigarette, sit through a movie without the craving.
It is just unhealthy. You are inflicting disease upon yourself, and it is preventable. You are more susceptible for colds and flu, and illness.
Wouldn't it be nice to see your children and grandchildren grow up? You are supposed to outlive your parents. You are more susceptible for heart disease.

Because nicotine is one of the strongest drugs on the market, smoking makes you look ugly, makes you smell, gives off second hand smoke, causes lung cancer, throat cancer, and mouth cancer. it also turn your teeth, and fingers yellow, and wrinkles your upper lip.
Was that enough negatives for you?
