He is an important factor not only of USA but World history! The father figure of civil rightist movements the world over. His Letter from Birmingham Jail is one of the most profound in the "Epistolary" (letter-writing) Studies in many overseas colleges. Dr.King showed us the virtues of selflessness. One wonders what the US and the world civil rights movements would be like now if Dr. King had not been around at some time in world history.
No matter any "untoward" some might say, he remains one of my foremost heroes for life!

GO Claresmiles!!!! I would have to agree, all the others who answered thhis question are very ignoorant, Dr.King was very important to African Americans and Whites as well, he fought for the rights of others, and he lost his life in the process, he fought aqainst segregation. we would do well to follow his example, we are all equal and God views us that way too. NOT one person or race is higher than another. Since I've lived in soo many different states I have come to reaalize that most of my friends are black and of races different from mine. Some of the greatest people I know are black.

Because he made a difference. Because he fought for rights. Don't be an ignorant jerk. Equal rights are a big part of American history. Even I know that and I'm not even from America. If a** holes like you can't figure that out I am wondering why you even call yourself an American. It proves that you are just a racist and ignorant person.
