Density helps to explain how massive an object is compared to its volume. For example, lets say we have 1 cubic meter of iron and 1 cubic meter of ice. They both look the same size but iron molecules are grouped much more closely than ice molecules and are therefore more dense. This means the same volume of iron is much heavier than the ice.
