You can install a splitter than will share the broadband line that you currently have. Then you can access the internet from both the computers.

You need to purchase a wireless 802.11g router. Usually run around $50, available at any electronic store or Walmart. If your laprop does not already have a wireless card build in (most do), then you will need a PC slot (PCMCIA) or USB wireless card for the laptop (another $40-50).

Connect the network cable that comes out of your broadband modem into the special port on the back of the router. Run another network cable from one of the other ports on the router to your PC.

Run the CD that comes with the router. It will set up the router so that it allows your PC to talk to the Internet through the router, and set up a home "network" that your laptop can join.

As part of the set up, the CD will turn on the wireless signal from the router. Once that is active, simple run the Wireless Network Wizard in the Control Panel of your laptop and you will be attached to the router, the Internet, and able to share files, etc with the other PC(s) on the router.

Check if what you have there is a modem/router.If it just a simple modem then you need to get a router & install it on the modem.Follow the installation instructions of the router.
Check if your laptop has a built in wireless card (most laptop does)---Right click on My Computer then select Properties.Click on Device Manager under Hardware tab.
Check for anything that says WLAN or wireless 802.11 b/g under Network Adapters. If you have a wireless adapter, make sure to check that the device is working properly under Device Status.

If your laptop has a built-in wireless adapter,do the ff:

Go to Start >> Run and type in services.msc and click OK.

Double-click on Wireless Zero Configuration.

Under the General tab, change the Startup Type to Automatic.
Click Apply.

Click Start button under Service Status.
Click OK to complete the process.

Click on Start menu then go to Control Panel

Right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon & select View Available Networks

Click on the name of your Network & click on the Connect button. It will ask for the Network key, code in the network/wep key of your router & click on Connect again.

Open up a browser & try to browse.

It all depends on what kind of modem you use.

The most common setup is you have a modem that you connect to your computers network port.

What you do is instead of plugging it into your computer you plug it into this.

Then you plug in your computer into that device.

Then you get a wireless card for your laptop. Some laptops have one built in. If you don't then you should buy one.
