what are your opinions on the likes of motion capture animation eg.polar express? do you think good old 2D is better? should we be trying to make cartoons more and more human?

Animation is an art per se - in it's own rights.
Making a realistic movie-like animation makes sense for some scenes in a movie; otherwise cartoons should stay cartoons.
So, the answer is the two kind of animations don't really collide; they both are good and expressive, although I think we entered in a new era in animation.

cgi is way better. 2d has some good one's but since we're moving into a new year the old is out the new is in

haven't seen any 3d in a long, long time. I like the CGI stuff better.
