Hairspray is your best bet, then wash it either by hand or better in the washer if you can figure out how to use it. Depending upon the fabric, it may never come out or only partly come out.

I hope that's not your brother's shirt.

Try a solvent like Oops or a similar product; however, I have to tell you that I'm not optimistic about your being able to get marker out of your shirt, no matter what color it is. Permanant markers are exactly that - permanant.

Be sure to test the solvent on an inconspicuous spot, to be sure that it doesn't affect the dye in the shirt itself. Good luck.

P.S. - to use the washing machine: Open the lid, turn the dial to a start position (most washers have several), and pull it outward. The water should start to flow. Put the appropriate amount of detergent in for one load (it should say how much on the bottle or box). Put the clothes in; close the lid, and that's it!

alot of times hairspray on the stain with a toothbrush to get into the stain and use some shout spray also to penetrate the stain, use cold water, rinse. if it is a white sweatshirt, a bleach water solution on the stain should remove the remaining amount of red.
rinse thoroughly and wash as usual. hang to dry, do not put in dryer if stain still needs work. the heat from the dryer will set in the stain.
