The Renaissance was an influential cultural movement which brought about a period of scientific revolution and artistic transformation, at the dawn of modern European history. It marks the transitional period between the end of the Middle Ages and the start of the Modern Age. The Renaissance is usually considered to have begun in the 14th century in Italy and the 16th century in northern Europe. It is also known as "Rinascimento" (in Italian).

The renaissance is of course a rebirth of ideas, but they weren't random Ideas. It was a rebirth of the ideas of the ancient greeks and romans. After the fall of the roman empire, with the rise of christianity as a power to be reckoned with, most of the ancient ideas were considered heresy. The cultures of the greeks and the romans were seen as excessive, hedonistic. Ancient buildings were left to decay; people would spit on the when the passed, cattle were allowed to graze on great sites.
At the start of the Renaissance Italy was being ravaged by the Duke of Milan, who was attempting to take over Italy. With his defeat the area was much more stable, and allowed the vast Italian wealth to grow, and finance the exploration of the new Ideas.
The most typical renaissance work by william shakespeare would have to be Hamlet. It's not just a cliche, everyone should read it. Hamlet is a perfect rennaissance man. Read his soliloquy, "how all occasions do inform against me and spur my dull revenge" It's amazing.

The Renaissance starts on the start of the 1300s extending to the 1500s. It turned right into a rediscovery and energetic imitation of historic Roman paintings, structure, and literature. The early Renaissance style shows its Gothic antecedents, fantastically in Florence's city hall, and contained in the Milan Cathedral. The later style more effective consciously imitated historic Roman homes in style. At its maximum huge, it has a particular ponderousness to its grandeur. it really is succeeded in Italy by way of Mannerism, and then by way of Baroque style more effective ornamented (or maybe flamboyant) variety.
