The Universe is a big adventurous place why stay in a meagre job, in a small life when the world is your oyster. Great idea, go for it. Wish I had used my feet instead of my head when I was younger. I've always wanted to backpack but now at 54 too b......... old so they say. Everyone always says to me "you're always talking about travelling around the world, or working as a volunteer but never do it."....don't let that happen to you!
I've lived abroad on and off for 20 years and now in Spain but the wanderlust is still as strong as ever. Like someone else mentioned, I'd like to join you too. Doesn't matter how long you say you'll be away, just go with the flow and make sure you record your travels with a good diary and photos, you never know it could become a best seller. Good luck you lucky b..........!

I have just come back from traveling the world and I had the best time of my life. I was away for a year and I had to sell my house and car as well as quit my job. If you are going to do it, work as you go, if you have any qualifications that will help. Teaching English as a foreign language in places like China and Japan is a good option. But 10 Years is a long time. You will miss all your family and friends. I would suggest plan for a couple of years first and see how things go.

very good idea, but before you start make sure you check all your all financial resource and try to get multiple tourist visas. I'm 29 right now i been to 44 countries, i started when i was 15 & travel for 11 years. i stayed in few countries for couples of monts, weeks years work there earn mony and moved to next place . so firstly chosse you destination where the daily needs are cheap or financail requirements are minimum then move to the expansive countries or otherwise you need to be well loaded with money. and make sure that you are well adoptable to the destination's society. best thing is that join some king of traveling job this way u earn to & able to see new places to and while you there you can enjoy your job too. best of luck.

well, you'll need around £650 to £1000 a month to survive on ... plus the cost of your travels if you need to fly anywhere. That's if you stay in hostels (sharing a dorm) for less than £15 a night, and spend no more than that every day on food and drink...

(based on my experiences in Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Southern Europe)

So, if we assume you will stick to cheap countries like Turkey, Vietnam, Spain, then you will spend something like £8000 a year...

do you have £80000 or an income of £8000 a year?

Your best bet is to save up then travel for a year or 18 months, then work for a year or 2 (teaching English in Vietnam or anywhere else) to save up some more, then travel for another year and so on.

You should check out the links below for travel advice.

If you really want to do something like this, and you have the money to get started, then I say do the research, and go for it!

Good luck!

depends on your money situation.. It is pretty damn expensive!!!

In Australia and new Zealand you can get a Working holiday visa which you could spend 2 years half working in them two places - get a sense of that life..

i think the UK has that sort of thing as well

I am 17 and am trying to save up £15,000 and i'm expecting that to last me a year (living in hostels/motels and not working).. It could last upto 3+ years though, depending on how you wanna live...

Also if you live in the US.. You could travel every state and work and experiance each one...

You could live out of a caravan...!

But you would need money to do it..

But yeah ... if that is what you want to do... then go for it! I wish i could..

Go for it, by the time you are 35 you probably will have a family. Take it from me you would'nt want to be travelling with a family in tow. LIve life to the full while you are still young enough to do so.
HAVE FUN DOING IT
