But when I put a disk in it makes all the sounds like its going to start playing, the light even blinks like normal, but it doesnt open up the program, so i put a dvd in and opened the program i use to play it, and it said DVD directory not found. So I tried a CD and opened iTunes it did not say there was a CD in the drive. So I opened Windows Media Player, and it said I didnt have a CD player. When I opened My computer It doesnt say i have any DVD/CD drive at all? How do I get my laptop to recognize my CD/DVD player? I have an Acer Aspire 3000. Running Windows XP with service pack 2.
I am very sure its not that the Drive is dirty, when you open my computer, the drive is not listed at all.

sadly, it sounds like the drive is broken; otherwise it should show up in windows explorer (my computer). Hope you still have warranty.

i dunno if this will help you.. but you can try it ... go to My computer icon.. right click and then properties .. press on the TAP Hardware then choose device maneger from there there CD/dvd room drives.. see if it is there. if it is there with a mark thingy try to disable it by the right click on the mouse and look under the file tap there will be an icon showing a pc with a magnifiying thingy .. press it and wait.. if the pc found it.. then it works...
but if you didn't find you drive under the CD/DVD drives.. just click on that icon thta i told you about before
i hope i helped you .. and plz tell us what happened with you

Have you checked to see that it is set in its connection properly, pull it out and reseat it, restart your computer and see if it is recognized. Do you need to update the drivers? You have have to replace it if this does not correct the problem...
