While it is somewhat embarassing for me to discuss this, I am going to do this because it is something that you want to know from your sense of decency. I believe that these things have not been explained to young people well or at all, leaving them very vulnerable on many such topics.
The lower nature of the body contains the assembling characteristics of gender and the erotic response to stimulation.
I would like to say that these combined elements and responses are part of a drive (like the drivers in a computer) and relate to the soul (like the object of a source program.) While the soul and the body are so much more complex than comparison to a computer, this context causes people to see that they can actually cause themselves to crash just like a computer.
I am going to change the word here to give it a new context. We'll use the word Master-battery. I would like you to look below at each definition.
The human person is subject to stimulus. And this stimulus is derived from many sources, some may be subliminal. As such,
the human person is able to be controlled or manipulated, even without knowledge of this manipulation. (Something bad women are accused of often. However, there is a more frightening aspect of slavery that is at a level of life that we can not control, once we let our drivers slip into auto-stimulation.)
A person who is using auto-stimulation through what we will call a master-battery or a portfolio technique (you know what I mean)
is deriving a planned set of behavioral characteristics and their responses. Thus it becomes a programmed set of behaviors.
These behaviors are unnatural because the nature of a person is at rest and is only somewhat stimulated at times. This programmed set of behaviors is like a virus to a computer. It can cause the person to crash, have a nervous breakdown, to develop a drug addiction, personality disorders and any number of maladies. Further the response becomes uncontrollable and traumatically experienced. This can lead to violence and even a deepening to a mental disorder.
This is a loss of virtual integrity.
Another way I have looked at this is: Master Bait. I do not want to be bait for any other person to have mastery over me. Do you?
I am a free born individual, not a slave. I am not going to co-operate in any way to become a slave.
And this is why Jesus teaches us not to co-operate with lower tendencies as drivers. He wants us to remain free in our natures and in our souls to experience true love and the natural relationship between a man and a woman.
Everything Jesus says is out of love, not to withhold good. If it were good He would gladly allow it. He made us in union with His Father at the beginning of the world. The Lord has tried to keep us free of evil, and tried to keep us pure in our ways.
It's not about guilt at all. It's about becoming free and re-purification of ourselves through the Holy Spirit. It is not wrong to become at ease in one's self, but it is wrong to become too easy with ones self, because you are opening the door to harm.
Does that help? I hope so. You can stop simply by turning your mind toward purer and higher things, stay busy, and pray. Be willing to sacrifice for the future mother of your children. One day a good person will come into your life and your natural way of love will be a wonderful joy! Give yourself the gift that comes from chastity. Take a look at the sites below called The Silver Ring Thing, a way for young people to reclaim purity and chastity.
My motto: Be chaste (yes) or be chased (no thanks).
Chastity: a virtue that restores integrity.

Man, there are some messed-up people lurking around in here.
Consequences? As in bad? You might rub yourself raw if you don't use a good lube. And it is possible to get too much of a good thing, but what I mean by that is neglecting any responsibilities and duties to things like work or family or friends.
Consequences? As in good? Let's call them "benefits," shall we? Unless you're a person who's just looking for a quick bang all the time (quantity instead of quality), you can teach yourself orgasmic control, so that if you're single, you can enjoy your self-pleasure longer without just coming too soon, and if you have a partner, you can satisfy them longer without coming.
Masturbation is also a great aid to sleep, a wonderful way to release tension/stress, and it can also be a form of meditation.
Instead of listening to all the nut cakes, check out the links below, from two mature, professional women.

Proved consequences of masturbation? Volumes and volumes of prejudiced, ignorant, deluded, self righteous, BULLS**T information being passed along as fact trying to scare people. That is the proved consequences. There is nothing wrong about masturbation, it is a normal part of life just like eating and sleeping.

Why Do People Masturbate?
In addition to feeling good, masturbation is a good way of relieving the sexual tension that can build up over time, especially for people without partners or whose partners are not willing or available for sex. Masturbation also is a safe sexual alternative for people who wish to avoid pregnancy and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases. It also is necessary when a man must give a semen sample for infertility testing or for sperm donation. When sexual dysfunction is present in an adult, masturbation may be prescribed by a sex therapist to allow a person to experience an orgasm (often in women) or to delay its arrival (often in men).
Is Masturbation Normal?
While it once was regarded as a perversion and a sign of a mental problem, masturbation now is regarded as a normal, healthy sexual activity that is pleasant, fulfilling, acceptable and safe. It is a good way to experience sexual pleasure and can be done throughout life.
Masturbation is only considered a problem when it inhibits sexual activity with a partner, is done in public, or causes significant distress to the person. It may cause distress if it is done compulsively and/or interferes with daily life and activities.
Is Masturbation Harmful?
In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. Some cultures and religions oppose the use of masturbation or even label it as sinful. This can lead to guilt or shame about the behavior.
Some experts suggest that masturbation can actually improve sexual health and relationships. By exploring your own body through masturbation, you can determine what is erotically pleasing to you and can share this with your partner. Some partners use mutual masturbation to discover techniques for a more satisfying sexual relationship and to add to their mutual intimacy.

Wow there are some uptight girls above. Do whatever makes you happy. The body needs to be cleaned out and it will happen in your sleep (nocturnal emissions) if you don't take matters into your own hands. It's perfectly normal unless it becomes excessive, just like anything else.

First, a person usually stops doing it when he/she has enough sex and is satisfied.
Second, there is one proved cosequence of it. That is only for girls. The body of some girls gets accostomed to getting satisfaction this way and there may appear a difficulty in getting vaginal satisfaction which is considered to be more complex.

Why would you want to stop someone doing that? It's a perfectly harmless activity, no ill effects to be suffered from it, the only totally "safe" form of sex. Unless it gets to the point where the person prefers that to "normal" sex, there is no reason to discourage it. It's fun! It's free!

Total self absorption. Who wants a selfish lover? You will probably get hooked until there's a lack of abiltity to have normal sex drive with your spouse. You can stop yourself through prayer and self discipline. It's best to become a new creature in Christ Jesus first and fight this battle against the flesh on the spiritual level as well. It will likely become an addiction and lead to the sin of pornography usage as well. This combination will cause one to live more in the realm of fantasy instead of reality which is a dangerous state of mind to be in. It ruins relationships.
