I was an Estate Agent for 13 years. You will have to start at the bottom as a trainee Negotiator. The best companies to train with are the nation companies like Connells, or The Countrywide group, but the pay is dreadfull. You could earn a basic of maybe £12-£14K with a commission taking it up to maybe £20K, they will promise you more, but it rarely happens that way. The fall-off rate is high, but if you're good, you can become a Negotiator after about six months which should earn you a bit more and then after about a year Senior Negotiator which would be about £16K basic with an OTE of £25K plus a little car.

After a couple of years you may be able to be a manager. Some Managers earn say £25K basic with an OTE of about £40. The Senior managers earn about £10K more.

The main people that really make money are the owners of Independant Estate Agents, so it's a bit of a way off for you but may be worth it.

My advice would be:

Train with a corporate company until you are a Senior Negotiator, join an Independant as a Manager and work your balls off to get a partnership.

It's a really tough job, no matter what people say, long hours, nasty public, crap money, but if you like sales, then some part of you will love it!

Good luck!

It depends on the company you work for as they differ so much. The basic is normally between £10,000pa and £20,000pa if your top guy but the most money is made from commision on selling houses' and mortgages and things like that. If you are just starting out your basic will prob be lower than £10k but like i said it depends on the company and their policy as some may include a company car as well and that could lower your basic. Hope that helps.
