As far as I can see the US has been the aggressor. Chavez is the elected leader of Venezuela and the US claims to support democracy yet they have tried several CIA plots to overthrow him which thankfully have failed. He wants what is best for his country and not what is best for the US. He has toyed with the idea of trading his oil in Euros which will damage the US economy but that is not a crime. That is simply business. He hasn't attacked the US or its interests and hasn't killed US citizens. He simply disagrees with US policies just as many other leaders do. Is that enough to make an enemy out of a country?

Chavez is a man of the people and elected with a big majority based on the fact he wishes to develop his country for the benefit of his people.
Latin America is sick of being a servant of USA big business corporations to their own native peoples detriment.
The USA has disgracefully and mercilessly exploited Latin America for 100 years as they did in Cuba and still do in Mexico etc.
The USA does not like or tolerate those who say NO, but the time is running out for the USA Empire and it will fall as all other Empires on its greed.
The future is very predictable, the USA will try to destabilise Venezuela and Chavez as they have done in the past with all who dare to say NO.
Let us hope this is the beginning of the end of the USA hegemony in Latin America.

Where to start,like you said chavez was elected by his own people(so what does that have to do with the USA)nothing.
Lets face it this is just another case of US aggresion aimed
at someone who wont drop into line(saddam anyone)like
iraq and iran if you dare to change from selling oil for dollars
to euros, the USA will simply start a propaganda war against
said country and then just start spinning lies and worse.

Hugo Chavez is going to conduct the 1st and only investigation into 9/11, which is more then what the US government have ever done, so you stupid Americans reading this better be grate full. What it is, America wants the oil from Venezuela, and Columbia, the US has been waging a secret war with Latin America for years now, you don't hear about it, it's all hushed-up.

Hugo Chavez does seem to be concentrating more power in his own hands. It could go 2 ways; either making himself 'president for life' like a Fidel Casttro/Robert Mugabe figure or just with pretend democratic elections every 5 years with state-controlled media ensuring that he wins, but remaining 'legal' and giving no excuse for an invasion or overthrow.

Shut down an opposition-biased TV station on the grounds that it wants to overthrow the legitimate government.
Consolidated all the pro-chavez parties into one to increase his chances of election victory for years to come (perfectly legal).
Started nationionalising industries (anti-capitalist, scares away investors, but not necessarily anti-American).
Cosying up to Cuban President Castro (objectionable to the US Government and cuban exiles in Miami, but not illegal).
Modelling himself on Fidel Castro (on the downside undemocratic, on the upside providing universal education and health-care unlike most of latin America and the poor in the USA).
