I have a cable modem with high speed internet,t.v. and phone.I hooked up a wireless router through a network on my p.c. for my sons laptop, but it slows my computer down. Not to mention the security risk of someone getting into MY computer through the wireless network. Can I connect another modem to connect his wireless router to,so he can get a wireless signal without creating a network connection from my desktop computer?I have cables in every room in the house,so finding another connection is not a problem. The cable company,WOW hooked directly into the existing cable system,so there is connections to the cable everywhere.

well.. from what you said.. you mean that your pc is the Admin for all the other pc's ( you wanna control the rest pc's from your main pc) anyway .. about slowing your conniction it is normal.. but you will need to upgrade it just the first times you will feel it is kinda or actually not kinda :) you will feel it is slow but then you will get used to it.. and try using some programes to speed your pc there is a good programe i know.. but i am not that sure about it and it is free you can Google it (( CCleaner)) try it .. i am using it right now.. and about the wireless network.. you can make a Password for your conniction so no one could enter you computer and mess up with it.. but you will also need a really go Security Software.. like Norton..

Without knowing how ur network is designed this question cannot be answered. but assuming that you are using a router to hook up the 2 desktops, then all you do is repleace the router with a router with wireless and wired capabilities. unless you are doing something special this is how 99 percent of the home networks are 1 phone jack to modem 2 modem to wan port on router 3 router to pc 4 router to pc 5 router to laptop wirelessly here is an easier way of saying it. unplug the network wire from the modem and plug it into the router, then plug a new wire from the modem to the wan port on router. keep router away from electrical and other devices such as fridges. point antennas up. if u get bad signal. move router higher, the higher the router, the further the range will go. just a couple feet can make a world of difference. still havin problems, buy a directional antenna, or google "pringles can wifi antenna"

The way a wireless router works, it broadcast only one signal and all wireless devices on the network share that one signal. So you are right, if you add a second (third, fourth, or at my house seventh) device to the network, it will begin to crawl.

You can add a second cable modem, but it will double your Internet bill. WOW is going to charge just as much for the second modem as they did the first.

Plus, if you want that second modem to also be wireless, you may have to play around with the channels (there are 12 available on most router) to find two that will not interfere with each other with the two routers being that close to each other.

A better solution might simply be to delete Limewire and Bit Torrent off your kid's PC, so they are not downloading illegal files and hogging all the bandwidth. (LOL)

His is NOT connecting through your computer, you are both connecting through the router and if you are accessing it at the same time that will cause a slow down for you.. if you want to connect using another modem, not a problem if you have two phone lines and two accounts... but is a bit more costly
