The usual drivel, someone makes a statement and wraps it up to look like a question.
What you are saying is that you can't understand why the french eat snails, and then you have a dig at Aussies for liking vegemite.
This is the reason I get bored witth Yahoo answers.

Hi there,
I cannot comment on the Vegemite has I have never tasted it and did not know until I read the other answers that it was affiliated to Marmite. Which I cannot stand.
But being French, I do not mind commenting on the Snail eating part.
To start with, you have to understand that if you have been used from a very early age to eat something, you enjoy it without questionning whether or not it is "normal", "Acceptable", "weird". My father is a real high profile French Chef. He has worked in 5 stars restaurants all his life and I have been used to eat the frog legs and the snails from a toddlers age.
Now, having said that, apart from the fact that they usually are served in a snail shell, once it is in your mouth, there is nothing that reminds you of the fact it is a snail.
It is fried in garlic butter and place in a clean hygienic shell for deco. It is taken out of that shell with a long small fork.
I ate frog legs. very nice actually. Not much flesh on those tiny bones though. Tasted like chicken. Honest!
I have eaten a steak tartare. Named after those "Barbarian" mongol warriors following who fought against the Romans. It is an barely cook horse meat steak with an egg cooked on it. I cannot say it was the best steak I ate. I was actually sick after that. But I tried before saying I did not like it.
My father was born in Congo Africa where my grand parents owned a ranch after the WWII. The locals use to eat raw slugs and fried bird eating spiders. My dad ate those. He still living and well. Bless him.
When travelling to Mexico, I ate some fried crickets. Very nutty, very crunchy and very nice actually. Native American use to eat the heart, liver and brain of the buffalo still warm and raw.
I think that you should try the frog legs and the snails. At least you will understand why we eat them. My American hubby did. He realized that people made a lot of fuss over nothing.
It is all about difference of culture and without it, the world would be such a boring place to be!!!

Escargots - pan fried with garlic butter. Yum!
Vegemite tastes like marmite with ether in it so the Aussies can keep that.

Boil up the snails (l'escargot) or fry etc and eat them out their shells with a special little snail fork. As for vegemite - wtf is that?
