The fairies' song is supposed to create a kind of "magical web" around Titania in her bower, protecting her from harm while she sleeps.

Obviously, is doesn't WORK very well, since Oberon is able to waltz right in there and put the love-the-next-living-thing-you-see juice in her eyes.

It's a lullaby to help the Fairy Queen, Titania, to get to sleep & also a song to protect her.
