I have a hotpoint fridge, I don't know the model but it is rather basic. I noticed that the light had gone on saturday, but I realised that the light hadn't blown because the filiment was still in tact. I thought it must be the fuse, but I tried the fuse in a different plug and a different fuse in that plug and the fuse was ok. I even tried a different plug. I still think that it must be the power supply that is at fault though as there is no evidence that the fridge is evin trying to turn on at all. I cant really afford to get a dude in to fix it, let alone buy a new one!

Is the compressor working (should be buzzing) if not then it sounds like the power supply has gone duff. (transformer). Fridges are not very DIY friendly Im affraid. The compressor on mine went duff but the electrics were fine, so it was either get a new fridge or get it fixed. I got Hotpoint down to fix it, They charge I think it was £85 to fix whatever is wrong as long it is ( within economic repair) if they end up fixing it, its guaranteed for 5 years (the repair is guaranteed) Try this number 08709066066.
But be warned if its a job that only cost's 10p they will still charge £85.
If you do get them down ask for an estimate first, then if it is a job that is beyond repair then I think its only £36. Ask when or if you phone them.

Use an extension cable to another known to be working socket to plug in the fridge. If this fails to get it going then you may need a new one or this one repaired. Even though the light is not working does the fridge still keep food cold? Is this light an indicator outside the fridge or is it the light that comes on when you open the door? If it is the interior light look for the little plunger switch around where the door closes and see if it is free. Press it in and release.

first, plug something you know works into that outlet, make sure you have juice. if there is power, unplug the fridge and trace the cord all the way into the machine. if the cord is intact and the plug good, then it is in the power converter. MAYBE, there is a fuse or breaker inside the fridge where the power comes in, i dont know about that exact model. if you trace the power's travel all the way in and find nothing out of order, you will have to replace the parts. should be some kind of black or silver box that the power goes into first. if it goes directly into the motor, you are screwed.
