I would suggest that this phenomenom could best be explained in this way. A pure human nature is in harmony with the human mind and spirit, it dwells in the lower realm of the soul. It is therefore synchronous or in tune with the elements of personal attributes of gender and temperament.
An idiosyncrasy is an identifiable movement that is not synchronous or in harmony with the nature of the individual. This motion or characteristic behavior may have been conditioned from a response to a certain set of unnatural conditions placed upon an infant or child, at some point in their development. This could come from trauma and be a reflexive response throughout the life of the person.
Androgynous as a qualifier of the out of sync behavior means having both characteristics of male and female. It is not possible that in a pure state of nature that a person should have both sets of characteristics. So I suggest that taking on the opposing traits is a means of one arming oneself against a formidable force, such as parents A child would only go to such lengths under trauma.
So that I suggest that this behavior is not only reinforced, but a deliberate reprogramming of one's nature to assemble characteristics that will counteract the negative influences of over-powerful tendencies in others.
This is sad however, because it thwarts the natural development and beauty of the innate creature that is humanly perfect in its origin. Therefore cattiness is result of a wildness creeping into the elements of personality idiomatic to the individual.
This is my own opinion developed from study and experience of watching the sad condition of human response to a world gone wild. Believe it or not at certain times in many places there actually used to be not only peace but harmony in nature and in the minds of people, and they were purer in nature and temperament, maturing to adulthood naturally.

Because this sort of pique is usually considered female. I really cannot think of an equivalent "male" term for it.
