Someone who is very old fashioned and traditional in their thinking. Usually used to refer to somebody who doesn't like sexual jokes or innuendo.

Being called a prude is rarely considered a compliment, but if we dig into the history of the word prude, we find that it has a noble past. The change for the worse took place in French. French prude first had a good sense, "wise woman," but apparently a woman could be too wise or, in the eyes of some, too observant of decorum and propriety. Thus prude took on the sense in French that was brought into English along with the word, first recorded in 1704.
Basically it at one point meant a person who was very concerned with social graces and proper ettiquette. It evolved to mean a woman who is OVERLY concerned with these things.
While it is oft misused today to denote a woman who is shy or unwilling to put out, it more literally means a woman who is overly concerned with social graces and proper ettiquette.
It is difficult to conversate with prudish women because you generally have to spend half an hour exchanging pleasantries and then practically beg them for information. It is much easier to simply shower them with hollow compliments and then explain that you have very little time before posing your question.

prude generally means someone who is a bit old fashioned, stuffy, narrow minded, ignorant of reality, stuck in their pattern and not willing to change, old, wrinkly and ugly all together. its a good word!

its somebody who is easily shocked by sex or any explict views like nudity and who plays a great deal of attention to proper social behavior, also known as tedious "sigh" i really dont know if youre serious
