I'm talking about the kinds of women who are androgynous in they're appearance in a very manly sort of way. Thick manly body. Little or no hair. Talks loud with a threatening obnoxious voice. Dresses manly. A tough looking woman, like she could fight a tough guy and win.

I've seen men who date these women, & sometimes the women looks so masculine that it's difficult to understand what a guy would find sexually attractive in her. Even they're personality will be very manly.

Does it mean that some of these guys, are really attracted to men, but staying safe with manly women?

This is why I have a theory that it's not whether your attracted to men or women that proves your sexuality. It's whether or not your attracted to masculinity or femininity. Because we straight men aren't attracted to all women. Were only attracted to feminine women. We judge womens beauty or ugliness based on how much or how little masculine traits she has. Like a manly or feminine nose.

thoughts?

cando_86 - Actually, my theory doesn't fall apart at all. I've met many women who claim there straight, but admit that because they usually chase after feminine men, usually find women attractive as well. Also, in my theory, what I'm saying includes bisexuality. Don't think I forgot about that just because I had to narrow down my question to fit yahoo answers set up. I think it's possible taht you are indeed bisexual if your sexually attracted to both masculine traits in men AND women.

If a man only likes women, no matter how masculine or feminine, then he is straight. Sorry, that's just the way it is, though it probably indicates that he's a little different than a straight man who likes really feminine women.

Your theory says that attraction to masculinity or femininty proves one's sexuality, but you can't forget that people are 2-parters: their biological sex, and their gender (masculinity or femininity). And you're right, the fact that we have both really does seem to screw things up, because what do you call a man who likes really masculine women, or a woman who likes really feminine men? To say they're gay is a lie- they don't like the same sex, never would. But they do like masculinity or femininity on the sexes you usually don't see it on.

Way back, I wrote a blog trying to address that very thing; the theory I proposed is that there are actually six different genders: masculine men, masculine women, feminine men, feminine women, and androgynous men and androgynous women. Based on that, there could be any multiplicity of sexual orientations based on who you liked out of that buch, rather than just limiting things to 'do you like guys or girls?'. Someone aptly pointed out to me that we really don't need more labels mucking things up, plus masculinity/femininity is a sliding scale. What is feminine? In some cases, it's easy to see, but in others, is it? What, really, is a 'feminine nose'? Maybe you look at a woman and think "God, she's pretty manly.", but her boyfriend might think "She's so feminine.", because it's rather subjective.

In the end, it's just not fair to say that an attraction to gender (versus biological sex) determines sexual orientation. For example- what about me? I'm attracted fairly exlusively to masculinity, but I like it in women and in men. That means I'm bisexual in this world, but in your theory, there's no rule that says that. And in your theory, a straight woman who likes feminine men would be assumed to like feminine women, too, when that simply isn't the case. Do you see where it starts to fall apart a little bit? It was a good theory, but I just don't think it holds up.

LOL! Granted, I may support your theory...since, my sweetie is very masculine. His masculinity is an incredible turn on for me. But, why I love him is not based solely on what he looks like, but his sensitivity, intelligence, values, beliefs, and common interests. Appearance helps, but it is not the end all to why we are "straight" or "gay."

Now, if he looked incredibly feminine when I first met him, would I have continued to date him? I'm not sure. If he was pretty looking but still had his fiery spirit and masculine disposition, I would say yes. Perhaps those women who are, what you would consider, masculine looking are perhaps more female in personality than you first assume they wouldn't be.

I have seen some very beautiful and feminine looking lesbians...lipstick lesbians.

I'd say, no. Some women are very attached to feminine men, and that doesn't make them a lesbian.

Just my 2 cents.
