The Lord of the Rings & Silmirillion by JRR Tolkein, although I am very into the guard series of Terry Pratchett books, and got a huge amount out of Batavia's Graveyard. I couldnt say I enjoyed it, but it was very well written. Oh and Ben Eltons The First Casualty (and Gridlock for some great characterisation) And Asimovs Foundation Series'. If you liked HP give Eragon a try.

You dont really want me to pick just one do you?

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The adventure and, not to mention the treasure thet they used as revenge makes you feel hungry no more.

Also the one by Paolo Coelho, The Alchemist, was the book that made me read more.
