My father runs a Reliant Robin and one of his spark plugs keeps oiling up. As a short term measure (until I can get round to taking the head off for him) I wonder if any body knows which short reach plug I could use to replace a "CHAMPION RN12YC "

RN12 plugs are quite cold burning and also fitted with resistors to help noise supression on your radio.

The plugs that are fouling can be replaced with a N9Y, RN9Y or RN9YC the latter being copper tipped, the Y indicates extended nose tip. These are all slightly hotter plugs that will reduce fouling, but care must be taken with the engine while they are fitted.

Retracting the plug into the head will only cause misfiring and combustion damage to the plug threads.

Incidentally, if only one plug is fouling its likely to be ring related rather than valve stem seals, although if the head gasket has blown from combustion chamber into the oil feed gallery much more oil is burned.

All the best.

This same set is used on an old Peugeot 504. I have a set just sitting in the garage now. Find a cross reference for the more common Peugeot from the years 75-79????
Meanwhile, I'll go look in the garage for the owner's manual for this car.
SORRY FRIEND, my Peugeot 504 plugs were RN 9 YC. I was wrong...
5 HOURS LATER... I really liked that answer from the 3rd guy. The new modern number of Champion RN 9 YC is plug #415 or #415c.

You wouldnt have to run a shorter reach plug, you could run what is called an oil plug fouler. What it does is screw into the sparkplug threads and the plug then threads into it. This will pull the plug out of the head some and prevent the oil from saturating it so fast.
