It is the fat content they are after so any food with fat, the more the better thats why they usually like chocolate so much

Peanut butter works great. It doesn't go bad very quickly, it has a strong smell and it smells like something the mice want to eat (unlike, for instance, bacon). Smear the peanut butter on the UNDERSIDE of the bait pedal for best results. That way the mouse has to stretch and wiggle the bait pedal to get to the peanutty deliciousness...*bang* [edit] Disregard anyone who foolishly calls you cruel for killing mice. Did that same person call any owl or cat that caught a mouse, "cruel?" Did that person recommend the owls and cats all turn vegetarian? Ridiculous. The mousetrap is very quick and humane - at least the mouse isn't toyed with for a few minutes by an excited cat, or speared through by a talon. Just *bang* and it's all over. Snap traps are the most humane way to control mice.

I got 4 big black tom cats that live out side and are fed very little but peanut butter on spring traps works too or you could dress up like a sexy little girl mouse you know little tale ,whiskers , maybe some rouge, lipstick , ahoooga !

Try dried fruit, sultanas etc.I have used them for three years or more and catch plenty. I also put down mouse poison and they eat that as well. But they still keep coming every winter from November to March.

I have heard the bacon rind thing before, warm it a little to get it soft and then put it on the trap, the little buggers will have no choice but to pull on it then to try n get at it!

Mouse poison! The suicidal mice in our house actually gnawed through the plastic container it was in to get at it!

You can try something which smells awful or perhaps rotten because rats are attracted by lingering stench, maybe that's why most of em live in sewers. Rotten fish or cheese will do. It works for me.

At my house they like peanut butter, but you have to mash it up with bread and stick it on the trap because if you dont they will just lick it off. Since you mix it with bread they actually have to pull on it.

I was going to say chocolate - that's wierd. I believe they like grain - when I had one it knawed into my bag of cereals - also into one of those "healthy eating" snack bars
