Cu^2+ + H2S -> CuS + 2H^+

what is the change in the oxidation state of the copper ion?

Hmm.....the copper ion doesn't change it's oxidation state....this isn't a redox reaction!
On the left side you see the Cu2+ ion, hence Cu(II). On the left you see CuS, which consist of Cu2+ and S2-......so again we have Cu(II).

The oxidation state of cu changes from 0 to +2.
