Make sure the supplier is reputable. You cannot imagine how many clients I have seen with defective equipment under warranty from a bankrupt vendor. A warranty is only a good as the company behind it.

Plan for the future. The minimum specs may get you through today, only to find you can't run the software you need tomorrow. With that in mind, the minumum specs nowadays for the average user would be:

Intel Pentium 4, Core Duo X2, or AMD Athlon 64 Processor
512 Mb RAM minimum, 1 Gb RAM preferred
Nvidia or ATI Graphics card with 128Mb min, 512Mb pref.
Serial ATA 7200 RPM hard drive, 120 Gb or better
Built-in Wired 10/100/1000 Network Card
Built-in 802.11a/b/g Wireless Network Card
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2

Avoid the following items like the plague:

No Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron processors
No "Shared Video Memory"
No "Integrated Graphics"
No Windows XP Home Edition

Do your shopping. If you go custom built by a local shop, get references and check them out. Stick to what I have outlined or better, and you'll have an affordable system that will last for years. Avoid the "don't" list, and you'll have a system that actually performs, and will always be upgradable should your needs change.

Mother Board 945 Lga ot later
Processor 3.02 G Hz with 4 MB cache memory ( or not less than 1 MB if you wanna reduce the costs )
Hard Disk not less than 160 Giga SATA
1 giga Ram DDR2 - spectek or kingston
This is the important things
About other things choose anything depending on what you really need + the costs
I hope these are useful for you

Don't look for price always , remember the reason why, Pentium is soo expensive is your paying for research. The chips have alittle more edge over the others but believe me , only a guy like Bill Gates would understand and see the true speed of a computer. An E-machine is just as good as a Vaio. Remember you are paying for the amount of programs that comes with the computer. I bought an Acer in Japan, and it has multi-region DVD player, and doesn't come with Windows, so the price was 690.00 dollars.

MB : doesn't matter but ASUS and Gigabyte are good
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 or better - AMD 4800+ 2.0 Ghz
Ram : 1 GB or more
Graphic card : nVidia GeForce 7+ 256 or 512 MB
H.D.D : 2 X 250 GB Seagate or Maxtor 7200 Rpm or higher
DVD-RW : ASUS 16 X 16
DVD-Rom : ASUS 16X

This PC would be a great one for you. You can run Vista on it.

Dear Friend,

While buying always go for Intel Pentium Processor
with Intel Original Mother Board, don't go for Intel Chipset or VIA mother board,
RAM depend upon your use but 512 MB will be good
80 or more thatn it Hard Disk insist on SATA, where as IDE is available but og for SATA,
1.44MB Floppy Drive
DVD Writer as this is optional on you can go for a CDROm or a CD writer, DVDROM or a Combo Drive but going for DVD writer means you need not upgrade on this issue atleast,
17" CRT or TFt or LCD this depends upon your budjet
Optical mouse any good brand
Multimedia Keyboard,
and a good looking ATX with SMPS cabinet, with front USB port.
