Potsie was a character on an old ' popular tv show called "Happy Days''. He was the goofy best friend of Ralph and Richie. But towards the end of the series it turned out this NERD could sing very well.
I AM SURE you can still see this TV show on a channel that broadcasts many old reruns that were popular years ago.
Today, the same actor that portrayed a nerd is a successful TV film director.
Sorry, his name escapes me for the moment.

There was a TV series called "Happy Days"> You may have heard of it even if you didn't see it, with Henry Winkler as The Fonz. Potsie was a nerdie, naive, though likeable character. Nerds are portrayed as stupid, but can sometimes mean an intelligent though dull person, misunderstood by the "trendies!!!"

I am thinking it is a reference to 'Potsie' a character in 'Happy days' he was a bit stupid (not tupid lol) i suppose he was a stupid nerd so if you were familiar with the programme you would have got the joke even though it still isn't that funny .
