Many people are so dependent on contact with other people they are lost when they are by themselves. Others are very uncomfortable in crowds. Which are you? And do you know why?

I'm sort of in the middle. I can do very well in a crowd or alone and I go back and forth between needing social contact and needing privacy.

I LIKE people and usually learn from them. But I also enjoy doing things on my own--including driving, reading, and my computer.

Where are you in this? Gotta have people around you or get rid of 'em all?

I like people, especially intelligent and creative people. I love being in a crowd that is full of energy and buzz.

But alone time is incredibly important to me. The first thing I do when my family is out of the house for any length of time is to quickly tidy up. Then I just read or watch junk on TV and periodically walk through the rooms noticing how they are still clean and quiet. Silly, probably, but I just love the serenity of it.

The older I get, the more precious alone-time becomes.

Warren,
I manage a hospice so I hear my name just about constantly for 8 hours Monday through Friday. It is a new business so I only have one other RN working with me. We have to share being on call for the patients as we are available 24/7. I am married to the cell phone every other night during the week and every other weekend from Friday night at 5 p.m. until Monday morning at 8 a.m. So even though I enjoy people and being around them; I LOVE my alone time. I don't have to have people but I don't want to get rid of 'em all either. I fall somewhere in between.

I am a flexible person so I am okay being alone and I'm okay being with others. If I want to get things done quickly and I'm the only one available or capable of doing it then I will do it by myself. Also when I wanna concentrate on something such as reading books, I wanna be alone too.But if it's nightime and not so safe place or not familiar place that I am going to then I wanna go with someone. Also I enjoy going to restaurant and theater with someone. So afterwards we can still talk about the film we watched, etc.

I actually really enjoy being alone. It gives me time to do things uninterrupted. Of course I have 3 kids under the age of 8 so any time I get alone I really relish it. There are also times when I'm feeling social and enjoy hanging out with friends and fellow workers. I'm a fiction writer too, so being alone is great for me creatively.

Most people think I'm an extrovert and I can see why they think that. I can be totally outgoing, but I have to really work at being that way. I get my energy from being alone. It's not that I can't or don't enjoy socializing - but it completely drains me. So I have a one to one ratio. If I'm out being social, I'll then need one day in by myself.

I prefer being alone. When a person socializes even in a family setting there's ALWAYS some one who will make demands on them. I like quiet. I don't want people looking in my face throwing empty words at me and most of the time if their lips are moving they are lying.

I am more introverted and don't like crowds very much, though I am able to deal with a crowd, just not my favorite place to be. I prefer to be at home with my family. My favorite time is spent snuggled up by myself with a good book.
