how do i see the enemy commander on the map, in battlefield 2?

You can't really pick out the commander. He's a red dot like everyone else. The only way to really tell is if he's stationary in one spot. That usually indicates a commander laying low commanding his team.

I think you have to be the commander for your team, and either use the UAV to find them or scan the screen once, and see if they come up.
