I am bored at work and have been thinking about this:
Over here in Germany you can buy a cheeseburger at McDonalds for 1€. The last time I was in the UK it was a cheeseburger for a pound. That means you in the UK are being ripped off cos 1€ is the equivalent of about 67p.

What are your thoughts on this?

Well spotted! Compared with most other EU countries, the UK also has the highest domestic fuel costs (gas/electricity); the highest petrol (gasoline) prices; the highest train and bus fares; heavy personal taxation, etc. - yet our senior citizens have the lowest state pension in western Europe (especially when compared with Germany!). Our armed forces are housed in substandard accommodation when at home, and when fighting a war abroad have serious shortcomings in equipment. Our constantly 'amended and improved' education system produces school leavers many of whom are semi-illiterate and unable to speak their own languages with fluency. Our police service seems to think that having officers on the streets is a waste of time (and often don't prosecute criminals, anyway), but appear to have a lot of time for the 'easy' task of prosecuting motorists. Many local authorities clearly believe that cleaning streets is not a priority, hence a lot of UK towns are becoming, in effect, paved with chewing gum; house prices are now so high that young people struggle to get a mortgage; university fees have rocketed and result in major debt for most students through loans; our National Health Service is struggling under the weight of government targeting schemes and extra demands caused by immigration, and our major (especially engineering) manufacturing base has been destroyed. Using global warming as a reason, the UK government will soon impose even higher taxes on its citizens through widespread congestion charges, road pricing, increased air travel tax, household waste disposal pricing, and a new 'council tax' charge based on a revised property valuation scheme that will cripple most low income householders. Furthermore, while some of the major members of the EU ignore the EU 'rules and regulations' when it suits them the UK follows them to the letter, further putting its citizens at a disadvantage.
.
You might deduce that Shakespeare's description of England* as a 'Sceptred Isle and Demi Paradise' no longer applies - a 'Septic Isle and Scrounger's Paradise', is more apt. (* Include the whole of the UK here.)

Anyway, I'm sure the above information will make you enjoy your hamburger even more! Now get back to work. :- )

I believe we are known around the world as 'Rip of Britain' we pay through the nose for everything while our fellow Europeans get things much cheaper, I think Tony Blair uses all the extra money we pay for jetting about the world on his jaunts, but you can keep the McDonald's for me, I would rather have a plate of sauerkraut and a bratwurst sausage.

That's not news. We all know we are ripped off in this country. On a different note, what are you doing in McDonalds? It sucks.

Welcome to the over pricing of the UK. We get ripped off all the time. Our governments slogan is 'ching ching' as they like to see us paying over the top for everything.
