Why don't people make detachable screen for laptop?

It's lighter than tablet

It's a tablet can detach because using the WIFI and have a battery in its screen. Today there are some WIFI TV, Why is not WIFI Screen for tablet? It's lighter and cheaper. We don't try to make it very compact.

Most-likely because the screen or keyboard on the laptop would get damaged. Also it would make it harder for the manufacture to make it so the laptop would close without being locked on both sides. On most laptops you can attach a normal monitor but the laptops screen would remain on. theres normally a port for this on the back of the laptop.

Why would you want a detachable screen? If what you want is a small portable then you can buy them (no screen, no keyboard, no battery, about the size of a power brick... plus a power brick adapter.

If what you want is a laptop that you can sometimes detach the screen from... the electronics is integrated across the base and screen so it wouldn't connect on a normal 15-pin connector... even if you de-integrated it you'd need to add a power line too. I guess there isn't the market to support a laptop with a detachable screen... the rate these things are made and the cost they sell for, there wouldn't be time to cover the cost of a detachable screened one.

Ever considered the alternative of a really small laptop? With an external keyboard it's almost as good as a screenless one... and designed to survive some portability. I've been using an old compaq M300 on that basis for years.

Of course, give a badly made lap top to a dedicated professional and after a few months of maltreatment it will have a detachable screen... and probably other detached bits.

They do, it is called a tablet laptop. There are only a few that make one with a detachable screen. Motion Computing is one of the vendors.
