Assume you mean the square root of 2.

17/12 =1.41667
2^(1/2) =1.41421

Difference = 0.00246

% error = 0.00246/1.41421 x 100
= 0.17%

The "square of 2" is actually 4.

sqrt 2 = 1.41421356
17/12 = 1.41666666

% Error
[(1.41666666 - 1.41421356)/(1.41421356)][100%]
= 0.1734606%

yea square of 2 is 4 and no where near 17/12
