Perhaps the file is not done being downloaded, and is locked by the operating system. Or the application did not properly close the file when it was done. If you are certain it is down being downloaded, Killing the rapidshare application should release any locks on the file. If that still doesn't do the trick, perhaps your antivirus software has the file locked. Another possibility is that the file is corrupt, or fake, and the application that is trying to open the file cannot grok the contents and is just silently failing, or giving a misleading error message. For example, if you take a jpeg image file and rename it to something.mp3, and try to open it, your mp3 player won't know how to process the jpeg data that is really in the file.

I ahve found that if it is a Video, some times Windows Media or Real Player cannot process it, I have started to use DivX and thhis program will normally open the file without a problem. The DivX program is free

You need to include more information than that.
file type? file name? usually, maybe its because you dont have the right software to open it.
