Mine took about 30-45 min. They have to take measurment's and look at the fluid. The only thing that is bad is if the ultrasound jel is cold, having to drink all that water and wanting to pee and you can't all the while they are pushing in on the belly with the ultrasound device. But once you see the baby's face and find out if you are having a girl or boy it makes up for the discomfort!!

They'll take you in, lay you down, put that clear jelly on your belly, and then run that hand held device over your belly. There's a tv screen with a black and white image and that will show the baby. It's kind of amazing.
Now, if you have a vaginal ultrasound, then they'll lube up a long skinny wand, and insert it into the vagina. It's not terribly comfortable, understandably, but it's not awful either.
Good luck! There's nothing to be scared or worried about! Enjoy this time!

Mine was about 45 minutes. They took a lot of measurements and a lot of heart photos (which freaked me out, but it was standard). She told us the sex of the baby pretty early on, and that was an awesome moment. It was like the baby was suddenly real - it didn't matter if it had been a boy or a girl - it was just knowing the sex made her even more real. Another fun thing, she kept trying to cover her face and head everytime the tech tried to get measurements. I ended up tilted on the table towards my head so the tech could get at her head. It was funny. And they may shake your tummy to get the baby to move in a better position, which is scary looking but ok.
Be sure to take a blank VHS so they can record it for you. It's really cool to watch later!

It isn't painful. The nurse rubs a gel on your tummy and rolls a little instrument over it. It will show up on the monitor and you can see it. She probably won't tell you if it's a boy or girl. Most likely the doctor will though. Most of the time you will get pictures to take home. You might want to take a vcr tape with you in case you can record it.

Should only take about 15-20 min. They will look at your kidneys and galbladder, then the baby. The tech will take measurements on the screen of the baby and should be able to determine the sex. They will sqirt a warm lubricating gel on your abdomen and slide around a slightly rounded device. It does not hurt, and you will be surprized at what you see on the screen!

Not long. You should ask if they have a tape you can buy so they can tape it for you. If you wanna know the sex of the baby this is your chance. Don't wear a dress cause you'll have to pull it up over your belly. Its so wonderful to see your child for the first time moving around inside of you.
