no...iraq is the new vietnam

Now that the Democrats are in power it is not going to get any easier. The Democrats are already drawing up plans to stifle funding needed to increase our presence in Iraq. If they are successful at blocking this funding that is needed to win this war then Iraq, our war effort, and our good men and women that have sacrificed so much will all be for nothing.

You can't win a war when you don't have the means to stabilize a region. Without proper funding and an increase in troops, we won't be able to successfully transfer power to the Iraqi people. However, I fully believe this is what the Democrats want to happen. They have tried to make this war another Vietnam almost from the start. If we don't stabilize Iraq, we are going to empower the very enemy we want to keep away from our country.

You don't close your eyes to the reality of the world. We can't close our eyes to the middle east and our enemies. Because, I believe if we do, we are going to suffer greater losses than the 3000 good men and women we have lost in Iraq. And, greater loses than the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

I do not disagree with those asking if you can really win a war. But unfortunately Ameriaca is increasingly failing to understand this.

On the other hand and especially in this particular case, winning is relative and is largely tied to objectives. If the American objective was to steal oil, then for now they are basking in victory. But if initial or modified objectives are things like subduing the insurgency or installing the American idea of democracy or their version of freedom as they often claim, then i tell you objectively that they will have no victory.

Recall that quite a long time ago, George Bush had declared victory but it would appear that the real war started after Baghdad was taken and for years it has been on. I cannot see any victory ahead for America.

When trying to accomplish a goal it is important to define that goal. The "goal" that the Bush Administration lied about was to defend America. We sent enough troops to accomplish that goal. If anything we sent too many.
The problem is the Bush Administration lied about what their "goals" were. So now the war is won when we create a democracy for Iraq. What if the Bush and the Republicans were honest with the America people in the beginning? Would they have agreed with all this? Would the Republicans have the guts to ask?
We will win the war when Bush and the Republicans that caused this war are in prison.

In actuality we have already won as today thee is no Iraq except in American popualces eyes.
You have three identites with the Papal state of US Corporations located in Bhagdad. Kurdistan is a country now, with over 1/3rd of old Iraq land mass. they ahve the pehmurgah as a fighting force along with teams of Americans leading every platoon and general headquartters. So much so they are already invading Iran lands whre their fellow Kurds live. Advertising on US airways and European ones also for tourist travelers.
You got the sias who won the southern portion with active oil fields almost totall within their control. So much so they are finaly sending their boys the Al Sadr Brigands north to fight the Kurds in Kirkut and Tikrit and doing it so well the US apys Israel 150 million a year to help train.
the Sunnis not having a pot to pea in will in all probability become the beggers like the Palestinians they used to support and be lucky if they all don't get wiped out in the process by the Shias. No matter how much the US will do by putting Sunnis in office once again it is too late and too little.
Bush has got to "SURGE" into Iraq, kill a bunch of shias especialy Al Sadr and is boys, and get the papal district quieted down, quickly, so Chenys boys can get on with the drilling in Kurdistan and get the oil to Israel before we attack Iran.

We won the war militarily in about a month, but we have lost the opportunity for the pacification of Iraq. My thought would be to leave Iraq immediately, apologize to them, and give all Iraqis some sort of reparation payment.

It depends...

If the Democrats have enough power, they will want to pull the troops out of Iraq, and if they do that the war is lost..

If the Republicans win the next presidential election, they will want to stay in Iraq....

I think that if you stay in Iraq long enough eventually you will win... its gonna cost lives but you will have the Iraq you want (Democratic, western...etc). but if you leave Iraq its either gonna turn into another Afghanistan (if the Sunnis win), or another Iran(if the Shiites win)..

I didn't support President Bush when he decided to Invade Iraq, but i give him credit for wanting to stay in Iraq and get the job done..

There most likely won't be a discernable Iraq by the end of this war.
