Well, you are going to need an ethernet connection on both of the computers. Any router will work, it does not have to be specific for your ISP. I think you may be looking at routers that have built in modems. You don't need all of that since you already have the modem. With DSL, your phone line with run from the wall to the modem, and then you will have to run an ethernet cable, looks like a large phone line, from your modem to the router, hook it into the LINK port on the router. Then hook your computers to the numbered slots on the router. Linksys routers are nice and inexpensive. Then follow the instructions that came with your router regarding ISP setup.
Instead of using ethernet, you can go wireless, but it will be more expensive as you will have to buy 2 wireless adapters. Your computers probably already have an ethernet connection in them if they were manufactured in the last 3 years or so.

I believe that Telewest use Cable Modem's just like NTL as the two company's are currently going through a merger.
If you go to pcworld then they have a very good range of wireless routers for both Cable Router's and Normal ADSL Router's.
You of course need a cable router.
DSL = Direct Satalite Link so this isn't the right one for you.
If you have any problems just call Telewest and they can advise.

Most any router will do but you will need to disconnect the usb cable and use the nic port on your PC to connect to your modem. If you dont have a network interface port on your PC, you will need to by a nic card, wired or wireless and install it on your PC. You will also need a cat5 networking cable unless you choose a wireless card. You may have to uninstall the original driver for your modem from your PC and install the correct modem driver. Once you get your modem set up correctly and have internet access, you can install a router between the modem and the router wan port. If you purchased a wired nic card for the original PC, you will need another cat5 cable to connect the PC to the router number 1 lan port. Any PC you have that is wireless ready can easily be connected to the new router by running your network connection wizard and selecting lan.

uneven digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a style of DSL, a data communications technologies that facilitates faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a properly-known voiceband modem components. It does this by technique of using frequencies that are actually not utilized by technique of a voice telephone call.[a million] A splitter - or microfilter - facilitates a single telephone connection for use for the two ADSL provider and voice calls on the comparable time. ADSL can commonly purely be allotted over short distances from the crucial workplace, generally under 4 kilometres (2 mi),[2] yet has been wide-spread to exceed 8 kilometres (5 mi) if the initially-laid cord gauge facilitates farther distribution. DSL or xDSL, is a kin of technologies that components digital data transmission over the wires of a community telephone community. DSL initially stood for digital subscriber loop, even with the certainty that throughout present day times, the time era digital subscriber line has been appreciably accompanied as a extra advertising-friendly time era for ADSL, it fairly is the main time-honored version of customer-waiting DSL. DSL could be utilized on the comparable time and on the comparable telephone line with universal telephone, because it makes use of severe frequency, mutually as universal telephone makes use of low frequency. generally, the get carry of velocity of customer DSL centers stages from 256 kilobits in line with 2d (kbit/s) to 24,000 kbit/s, consistent with DSL technologies, line circumstances and repair point applied. generally, upload velocity is under get carry of velocity for uneven digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and equivalent to get carry of velocity for the rarer Symmetric digital Subscriber Line (SDSL).

DSL is faster than other remote access technologies such as analog modems, ISDN, cable modems, or wireless solutions; and it provides secure, continuous access over a dedicated phone line to each business customer - no time is wasted with dial-up routines. DSL is cost-effective to implement and to manage, and DSL utilizes the existing copper wire infrastructure, therefore it can be deployed almost everywhere.
