It should be to British Standard toughenend laminated glass. Yes it's going to be expensive, try the Pilkington website and look at trade customers section and click on the applications for glass floors - If you get the proper stuff at least you know it will work and will come with the paperwork you will need later for insurance or seller's pack.

Alternatly you could also try to find via ebay etc glass stair treads and re-cycle them into your floor sections, or use perspex.

Would love to know the source if you would like to forward. You can use this - just get a Structural Engineer to look over the Glass specification to ensure it meets UK spec.

Good luck

The glass must conform to building regulations and must be of a certain thicknessas not to shatter.Contact a building merchants its very specialist. I think the laminated glass does meet the regulations.

I rang Pilkington glass people when I wanted to fit a large piece of glass into a floor and be able to walk on it. They asked my max dimensions then they told me how thick it should be and the type of glass required. They even quoted a guide price for the manufacture of it.

I can't strictly know, but haven't you asked this Q recently, here? If so you even e mailed be regarding the "why" of it.

In your request for info; have you actually gone to any of the governing bodies local to you, with regard to regulations?

All glass in a bathroom should be tempered to prevent serious injury should it fail.
