My now 7 month old son finally slept through the night when he was almost 4 and a half months old. When he turned 6 months old he begun waking again. Usually just for a few ounces of formula then he'd go back to sleep. His Dr told me NOT to give him formula during the night he was "to old" and that giving it to him was "just letting him know it was okay to wake to eat and he'd grow up to be fat".He told me to let him cry he'd go back to sleep and my husband who has NEVER gotten up with him during the night agreed. Well here is the thing the little guy will NOT stop crying if I do not give him formula.Ive tried to give him just H2O but he can ofcourse tell the differance.Lately he's waking and staying awake for almost 2 hours and in that 2 hours we are sitting in the living room and he is playing.I tried to avoid this but it is the ONLY thing other then giving him a bottle that keeps him from crying. Ive tried laying in a dark room with him and even giving him formula but

he just wont go to sleep. I also know that many babies his age go through this waking at night phase. What can I do to keep my sanity. I am giving him his formula after he spends some time playing and he will go back to sleep. I am so tired because I am a light sleeper due to having a terminally ill 13yr old who may also need me at night. And before any of you suggest a nurse for my daughter it is completely out of the question! Yes he's on solids 3 times a day final feed of soilds is between 5-6pm his bedtime is about 8-830 and he takes at that time usually 4-6 ounces of formula. When will my little guy sleep through the night. And have any of you continued to give your 7+ month old children formula through the night without them growing to be "fat"?

** Cin I have tried to let him cry it out right now it is 320am and I sat up there listening to him cry for 30 minutes before taking him out of bed. I changed his diaper tucked him back in and soothed him walked away and the screaming began.

Your doctor is giving you PARENTING advice and NOT medical advice. Your doctor does not live in your home. It is none of his business how you parent your baby. He doesn't see your baby every day and really KNOW your baby the way you do. That "too old" to need to eat stuff is a line of hooey. How can HE know how your baby's tummy feels and what your baby needs? He isn't there in the middle of the night. YOU are the mom. YOU know best what your child needs. Don't leave him to cry. Instead, meet his needs. Don't torture yourself and him all night. DO NOT give him regular milk as someone else said. Either nurse him or give him the formula that he is supposed to have at this age. He is not old enough to drink cow's milk yet.

Honey that Dr doesn't have to stay up with the baby and also take care of you daughter(my prayers are with you) He is probably going through a growth spurt and they eat none stop. after a week or two he will stop and go back to sleeping through the night. in the mean time feed him the couple ounces and get some sleep.

I say try giving him milk at night instead of formula and if that doesn't help try feeding him a little bit before he goes to bed if that doesn't work get a different doctor
