Basically my question is is there a possibility to have my current system support 4g of memory in the future since physically it can hold 4 gigs but only takes advantage of 3?

No there will never be a software update for your ram as it is the physicall memory adesses available on your motherboard that only allow for 3GB of RAM. This means that you only have enough physical wires(connection points) to your processor to support 3GB of RAM.

It is a physical limitation of your motherboard. Unless the manufacturer ups the memory supported with a software patch, then the most memory you can use with that board is 3gb. Yes it may physically take 4gb, but you will only be able to use 3gb, since that is the most your motherboard can support. You are probably limited by it's chipset, which would be both a hardware AND software limitation.

It sounds like you are saying you have 4 slots but the system isn't counting the memory over 3 gigs... so I would say it is a motherboard issue... check the specs for the MB. Maybe there will be a BIOS upgrade for your system that will allow it to address memory over 3 gigs.
