I think it depends on the game. You can find out online if you've lost the box and game manuals.

It depends on the game. Check the game box for more Information.
There are three ways to connect between two or more DS:
[1] Multiplayer mode
This usually exists in the game menu, this mode requireds the two consoles to have the same two games.
[2] Download Game mode
In the main menu of the DS, there is a "Download Game" button under Pictochat. This mode allows two or more consoles to play using one game.
[3] Wi-FI
This one is a mutliplayer gameplay using the Internet. It requireds a wireless internet with each player having it's own game in it's own console.
In case of Nintendogs, It uses option [1].
In case of Big Brain Academy, it uses option [2].

Not necc...SOME games require two cards, others require one (for both to play),the directions and or box usually state so
Look for"Multiplayer Information" in the games directions
.In the case of the box, check the upper corners for a logo similar to the esrb rating logo, with the numbers 1-2 or 2-4 etc...for that particular game: for multiplayer
In the case of1 card, it works through wireless download of the necc software (it copies it) from one unit to the other, so they can play together.

It depends on the game (check on the back of the box and see if it needs 1 cartridge or 2).
The inbuilt wifi should sort out connecting them together.

Yes, you need two of the same game.
You also need wireless internet or a connector cable to connect ds to ds.
