I totaly agree with you, but when you quit, you quit for yourself - not others.
Let him know your opinion, but don't force him. Let him some time.
Good luck !

You can't ask a person to change because you have. I gave up drinking a year ago due to bad health but my girlfriend still drinks a lot. I told her before that I think it is damaging her health too but she won't quit as the reason she fell in love with me was apperently because of my drinking and lewd behaviour. She thought that if she dated someone similar to herself she could do as she liked. Changing isn't really part of the deal. If your boyfriend wants to quit then help him. Tell him how much better you feel having quit but never ask him to do the same as he will despise you for it if he doesn't want to.

Explain that his habit is making it hard for you to stay commited to not smoking. My husband smokes so I have been down this road...overall, he has to want to quit in order to achieve success. Try not to be hard on him because you need to tell him your true feelings but you don't want to come accross as nagging because that will just put him on the defense and he will rebel and smoke even more. I wish there was a way to eliminate smoking but the demand is too high right now for there to be any hope.

You can tell him that you care about his health and would like him to consider quitting. You can be a good example of health and what benefits come to one who quits. But if you tell him to quit, expect him to quit, nag him about quitting, you would only push him away from you.
I wouldn't rub it in his face of course, but as time goes on he will notice the changes in you that are a result of not smoking and hopefully he will want to do the same so he can feel as good as you do.
Good luck, and just focus on yourself!!!!

Wait- It's a disgusting habit, but the real reason you quit was because you wanted to take birth control? And now you think your boyfriend should quit too? I'm sorry, but I think you should leave him the hell alone and let him make his own decisions. He's a boyfriend not a marionette puppet.

Good for you that you were able to successfully quit smoking! It's quite an accomplishment. A lot of people are never able to do it. Kudos!
I think it's perfectly reasonable to request your boyfriend quit since the effects of the second-hand smoke tend to be fairly bad as well. You should talk to him about it. His smoking could also cause you to inadvertantly relapse. It may be very hard for him though. Any reduction in the number of cigs he smokes should be viewed as an accomplishment.
Good luck! =)

Why is your boyfriend on the pill too?
It is not wrong to ask him to stop, but it should be for the right reasons

I definitely think you should ask him to do the same - it's SO romantic to take the pill together.

Have a nice talk with him and tell him smoking can affect his fertility and or tell him that it causes lung cancer and do whatever you think is best, and I hope my advice was helpful
